I saw an exhibition of Rodin's works several years ago and was particularly inspired by his sculptures of hands. I sketched up a hand thinking I would like to create such a work as a shellform in sheet steel, but I never started it because I knew it would be an enormous amount of work.
Well, as it turned out, our local art group the Belconnen Artistts Network (BeAN) made Hands the subject of the 2010 Summer Challenge. This was enough to force my hand (so to speak) and this is the result - after 80 hours work.
Shell form, fabricated from sheet steel, 0.5 mm thick. Height 250 mm.
