Xeno's disciple
This was the first sculpture I made, circa 1995. I had the idea to make a torso from recycled car body panels by hammering the metal, stretching and shrinking it to create hollow shells which could be welded together. At the time I had no idea if this was possible, so this was very much an exercise in technique - which accounts for the rather static pose.

The metal I use is 0.5 mm thick, so the contours and alignment of the edges of the shells has to be quite accurate before they can be welded together. This makes the whole process very time consuming.

15 cm tall.

Collection of the artist.
