Who will? (Imannuel Kant, Marmite, Kubla Khan)
This was created in response to the Belconnen Artists Network (BeAN) "Summer Challenge" in 2009, which was to creatively interpret, deconstruct or otherwise draw inspiration from Samuel Taylor Coleridge's evocative and richly worded poem Kubla Khan.

My immediate reaction when I heard the title of the challenge was "Kubla Khan - Marmite * ". About 10 seconds later I added "...and Immanuel Kant".

This work is a whimsical piece based on that execrable pun, with an image of Immanuel Kant, a jar of Marmite and a tin (a "Kubla can") of chinese food with a label digitally manipulated to re-brand it and include an image of Kubla Khan. The three items are mounted on a turntable recycled from an old record player and rotate under/around the question mark that poses the riddle.

Mixed media installation. Not for sale.

* Marmite is a spread made from yeast. A rival product, Vegemite, was renamed "Parwill" in 1928 in a marketing strategy that never quite suceeded but firmly established the joke. The name reverted to Vegemite in 1935.
