Access door
This access door was commissioned to match a courtyard gate for a house in Latham, ACT (see previous work).

The bottom photograph on the left shows the door and gate in context.

The door is made of lighter gauge metal than the gate although it is still quite heavy. The door has no keyed lock: rather it has an electric strike controlled by a Radio Frequency Identification Device (RFID) sensor that allows the door to be opened from the outside by either RFID proximity tag or by typing in a PIN number on a number pad. The door is not lockable from the inside, and has a conventional handle to allow egress. The door and side panels are backed by a perforated steel screen to keep insects out and prevent anyone from simply reaching through the door and operating the handle on the inside. Like the earlier gate, all the decorative elements except the arrowhead are hot-forged steel, and the door is powder coated.

It was completed in early 2009 after about 180 hours work.
